8am Tuesday, SUG – Day 2…not many of Monday’s 80’s social night costumes remained in sight but the general climatic conditions of the previous day did. It was a day of more great results for VU played in particularly cold and blustery conditions for the outdoor sports. Well done to all VU athletes. (ed note: point of clarification - that VU staff were not still in 80’s costume on Tuesday – they always look like that)
The VU women’s AFL and Volleyball remain undefeated at the end of day 2. Spirits are high in both teams as VU is now well positioned to take gold in Thursday’s all important final game. Basketball men are also look strong with another crushing defeat of 50 points delivered with a smile to Deakin No2 team. Soccer men had some close fought games and the women… are well, clearly too strong for Deakin (the women’s competition has been reduced to 2 teams, VU and Deakin, they play each other each day for 4 days). Hockey women had a great day comfortably dispatching their opposition in both games and VU had a day of strong performances at the Netball… with 4 wins from 5 games over both teams. Netball women looking very comfortable and Netball mixed going down by 2 to U Melbourne in close and spirited game to close out the day of competition. Tuesday also saw the VU Touch and Ultimate teams notch up victories. How our team manages to throw the Frisbee at all in the wind is amazing… well fought out team.
To close out the day VU Team Manager Ashlee Marks brought the entire 204 strong VU team together for the SUG dinner all-team meeting. All team managers reported on results to date before teams regrouped for the evening’s Heroes and Villains function at the Geelong Pier…and judging by the costumes the VU team was taking preparations for the evening event just as seriously as its on field performance.Day 3 is again jam-packed with action.
